Solidarity In Action!

Recently, a Drivers Union Oregon coalition showed up at a Northeast Portland Boeing facility to stand in solidarity with the Boeing workers who are striking for the pay and benefits that deserve.
This is a fight shared by all workers, whether they work in a factory or sit behind the wheel of their car as a rideshare driver. Oregon drivers have seen their pay fall year after year even as robust inflation has stretched their earnings more with every month. Likewise, Boeing workers have seen their pay stagnate despite rising medical costs and an ever increasing cost of living, and have been subjected to mandatory overtime, keeping them away from their families and the rest that all workers deserve. Unions brought us the weekend, and we stand with IAM 751 and the workers at Boeing who have every right to theirs.
That’s why the drivers that make up Drivers Union Oregon are always ready to stand in solidarity with the workers in our community who deserve a fair shake. That’s why we marched with Portland teachers when they went on strike to ensure class sizes that weren’t so overwhelming they couldn’t give each student the care they required, that they had the planning periods necessary to deliver the high quality education that every student deserves, and improvements to school safety and access to mental health services.
And those teachers won! And Drivers Union Oregon was proud to have the opportunity to stand with them.
Likewise, we wish to echo the words of IAM 751, the collective voice of striking Boeing workers:
“This is our moment - our opportunity to stand up for what we deserve for our families, our communities, and our country. The world is watching us, and what they see is clear. Workers standing together, unified in purpose, and participating in concerted activities in factories across Puget Sound and Portland. Families preparing, ready to face whatever comes next.”
We hope that Boeing workers are able to quickly obtain a fair contract that values their worth. But if that doesn’t happen, be sure that you’ll see the drivers who make up Drivers Union Oregon standing on the picket line alongside our siblings in labor at Boeing.
When we fight, we win!
